The 31’ Open Contender is without a doubt one of the finest tournament fishing boats made.  It is a semi-custom fisherman with a high performance hull. Standard fishing features include raised livewells, two 400 quart forward fishboxes and two 225 quart aft fishboxes.  There is a step down console which can house a marine head if desired.  It also provides access to the back side of the helm making installing or wiring electronics a breeze.  The battery switches are also located here.

HULL & DECK

The exterior specification on this 31’ Open Contender is all about fishing.  There is a walk through transom door and a single level cockpit. There is a folding diving ladder on the portside of the engines. It has full bolster padding around the entire inside of the boat. The console is covered with a light green T-Top which has a u-zip opening to access the observation seat on the top behind the radar.
The console also has a three sided Eisenglass enclosure which has a u-zip front panel to allow additional ventilation for the driver. The t-top has Top Gun outriggers, both forward and aft spreader lights and both forward and aft florescent lighting. The t-top also has four rod holders incorporated into its stainless steel frame.There is storage for twelve rods, four on each side of the console and the four in the t-top frame.  There are also four rod holders in each gunwale, five rod holders in the rear of the console seat and a holder for a teaser rig and two additional rods in the center of the transom. To the rear of the console seat is two tackle storage areas, there is a tackle storage area on the starboard side of the console and one under the steering wheel. The console seat is large enough for two adults and has a backrest. As previously stated this boat is all about fishing.  There is a built in ice chest forward of the console in front of the door which goes to the step down console. The ice chest is padded and doubles as a seat for two. Forward of the ice chest there is seating for four on both the port and starboard sides. The forward handrails are recessed which provides a cleaner look and also does not interfere when fishing forward. 

ELECTRONICS SPECIFICATIONS

This Contender offers an outstanding electronics package. It includes an ICOM VHF radio,A Simrad AP16 auto pilot which is interfaced with it Furuno combination 36 mile radar/GPS chartplotter and depth finder. There is also a Clarion stereo/CD changer in the helm with two speaker all the way forward and one on each side of the helm.

MECHANICAL SPECIFICATIONS

This Contender 31’ Open is powered by the very desirable twin 250 HP Yamaha four stroke outboards. As previously indicated this launches the Contender through the waves at over 50 KPH. The engines have 420 hours on the portside and 425 on the starboard. The Yamaha four stroke engines are know for their dependability and economical fuel usage.  With a 240 gallon fuel tank you can take off to your favorite fishing spot and you do not have to worry about running out of fuel. The current owner has put back up pumps for the glass top bait wells.

This 2005  31’ Contender Open is like new and is ready to go fishing. The current owner wants this to be the next Contender to be sold as he has already purchased his new Contender. The boat is located in Key West but is worth the drive to see this beauty.
